Blue Fire
Ijen volcano has some of the highest sulfur levels in the world. Since the sulfur can spit out “blue lava”, it is unusual for a volcano. This blue Fire is not real from lava. The light (Blue Fire) is actually the light from burning sulfur gas. These gasses emerge from cracks in the volcano at high pressures and temperatures—up to 600 °C. When they come into contact with air, they ignite, sending flames 5m high. Some of the gas condenses into molten sulfur, which continues to burn as it flows down the slope that looks like a lava flow.

The Blue Fire of Ijen Crater can only be seen at night. The best time is between 2-4am, which is why you (Travelers) should start your tour early, around 1 or 2am. The sight of the fire at night is so Beautiful and amazing. Blue Fire phenomenon only occurs in Indonesia, especially in Ijen Crater (Kawah Ijen).

Sulfur Miners

Mount Ijen is one of the famous sulfur mining activities in Indonesia. You can see sulfur miners carrying two baskets made of bamboo filled with yellow sulfur on their shoulders.According to a local tour guide he said that there are about 50 miners every day. Ijen Crater sulfur miners have been extracting sulfur here since 1968, they work at night alongside a stunning blue fire for tourists to escape the hot sun. Miners extract sulfur rock, which forms after a blue fire goes out and leaves sulfur behind. They then carried this sulfur into a basket on the side of the mountain to sell for their daily income.

Greenish Lake
We are presented with the beauty of the Greenish Ijen Crater lake which is very beautiful from the top of the crater. The Greenish lake in the volcanic crater of Kawah Ijen looks calm and stunning. However, it is also the largest acid lake in the world. The water in the crater lake has a pH of less than 0.3 on a scale of 0 to 14 (7 neutral). In fact, it is acid that makes water green.
