Novice climbers desiring to conquer the highest peaks in Indonesia should consider these following tips

Climbing is one of the thrilling and adrenaline-challenging hobbies that many people enjoy. In addition, climbers will be treated to a breathtaking view inching closer to the summit as well as the beauty of the peak itself. Due to its location on three active tectonic plates, namely Eurasia, Indo-Australia, and the Pacific, and the presence of active subduction zones in numerous places, Indonesia is a country with a large number of active and inactive volcanoes, making it a popular destination for climbers. Mount Rinjani, Mount Semeru, Mount Merbabu, Mount Bromo, Mount Ijen, as well as other peaks, are a popular climbing destination. Despite the fact that climbing is not a new activity, there are still a large number of individuals who are scared to join because they believe they are still novices. Concerning this, novice climbers desiring to conquer the highest peaks in Indonesia should consider these following tips.

Ijen hiking

Ijen hiking www.trippytriptour.com

The first piece of tip is to research and study the mountain’s location. This is essential due to the fact that each mountain’s location, geography, and climbing path are unique. On Mount Kerinci, for instance, the majority of the climbing terrain consists of mud and sand, whereas on Mount Rinjani, climbers must be able to walk uphill because the terrain is inclined at a 45-degree angle. By understanding the mountain’s position, later climbers will be less shocked and more prepared logistically and physically. Beginners should select a mountain with a low degree of difficulty that is climbable by novices.

The second piece of tip is to workout before ascending a mountain. As was previously noted, one of the necessary preparations is endurance. Never imagine that mountain climbing is a simple endeavor. On the other side, this sport necessitates a great deal of physical strength and stamina in order for climbers to reach the summit of the mountain. Therefore, exercise prior to climbing is essential. Prospective climbers can practice for a few weeks before to climbing by jogging and performing other light workouts. This can help develop physical endurance and prepare the body to climb the mountain.

The third tip is to prepare the climbing equipment in an acceptable and careful manner. Because the carrier’s capacity to carry products is limited when climbing, bringing equipment for climbing must be done with proper and mature care. Therefore, prospective mountain climbers must be extremely cautious when deciding what equipment to bring. Carrier bag, hiking shoes, jacket, pocket knife, raincoat, portable cooking utensils, flashlight, whistle, compass, and first aid kit are the most commonly carried items for trekking. In addition, supplies and logistics are significant factors that must be considered. Aspiring climbers should have adequate food supplies. As a climber’s meal menu, instant noodles, rice, chicken nuggets, and corned beef can be brought. In addition, provide climbers with biscuits, chocolate, and bread to replenish their energy while traveling upward.

The fourth tip is to register first. In most cases, prospective climbers must register and obtain a climbing permit at a certain site on certain mountains. Officers will record the climbers’ personal information and inspect the luggage of potential climbers in order to determine whether the climber is eligible to ascend the peak. This phase should not be neglected since, if the climber does not descend the mountain on the specified day, the officers will conduct a rapid search by combing the mountain region.

The fifth piece of tip is to stick to the three mountaineering principles. Every climber must firmly adhere to a well-known guideline held by mountaineers worldwide. The three principles are take nothing but picture, leave nothing but footprint, kill nothing but time. The goal of the first principle is to restrict climbers from bringing anything from the mountain back with them, regardless of its form. Climbers are only permitted to photograph anything they find noteworthy. The second guideline prohibits climbers from leaving anything behind, including trash and rubbish. Climbers are advised to bring their trash with them until they locate a garbage dump. The goal of the last principle is to prohibit climbers from killing animals and plants, as climbers should have the principle of turning on, not off.

Ijen hiking 2
www.trippytriptour.com

Those are several simple enough for first-timers to implement on their climbing adventures. If you never give something a shot, you will never know if it is right or not. To use an analogy, we cannot know what it is like to climb a mountain or appreciate the view from the peak if we never give it a try. If the thought of climbing a mountain for the first time fills you with dread, you need not worry any longer because you have been provided with mountain climbing instructions for beginners. That being said, why delay any longer? Arise, and ascend the mountain!

Many natural tourist sites ranging from beaches, and waterfalls, to mountainous highlands, are all in East Java. For those who like adventure, check out the following 7 natural tourist attractions in East Java. Which ones have you visited?

1. BROMO TENGGER SEMERU NATIONAL PARK

It is undeniable that Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the most popular tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists. Many tourists are willing to leave in the night to go watch the sunrise at dusk. In addition to being the best spot to see the sunrise, in Bromo, you can get around using a jeep or riding a horse for those interested. Many photo spots offer beautiful views, such as Pasir berbisik , Teletubbies hills, and much more. Make sure you wear clothes that are warm enough!

2. BALURAN NATIONAL PARK

Baluran National Park is commonly known as Indonesia’s Africa. This is because, during the dry season, the weather in Baluran becomes scorching and barren, like in Africa. You will find many animals roaming freely, such as deer, bulls, wild buffalo, and many more. You must be careful when you meet them, stay calm, and don’t flick. Not only that, but you will also find savanna, namely the Bekol savanna and Bama savanna. Don’t forget to wear a hat to protect your head from the hot sun! You can also use it to pose when taking pictures to make it more stylish!

3. IJEN CRATER AND A WONDERFUL BLUE FIRE

The blue fire in the Ijen crater is a target for local and foreign tourists. Many tourists come to see the beautiful and exotic scenery in the Ijen crater and the blue fire. There are only two places worldwide: in Iceland and Banyuwangi, East Java. But to get the full view must be at night. At that time, you can see a very unforgettable blue fire. The blue light that contrasts with the night sky adds to the exoticism of the blue fire itself.

4. TUMPAK SEWU LUMAJANG

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is one of the leading destinations in Lumajang Regency, East Java. Here you can see an extraordinary view in the form of a row of waterfalls stretching like a curtain. However, it should be noted that the track to the location of this waterfall is quite dangerous. It will be safer if you enter through the official counter in Lumajang than through Malang. You also have to ensure you have enough stamina to reach the location because it will take approximately one hour on foot. Use appropriate footwear on slippery terrain, and be careful!

5. BEACH PLENGKUNG BANYUWANGI

Plengkung Beach

Plengkung beach is well known by tourists, even to foreign countries, because the waves are very suitable for surfing. It is even claimed to have one of the best waves in the world, by world surfers, to the point of being called G-Land. Its location in Purworejo, Kalipait, Tegaldlimo, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, is still part of the Alas Purwo National Park Area. So don’t be surprised if you walk along the coastline; you will see green forests lined up. The combination of the beach with the forest is terrific!

6. PAPUMA BEACH JEMBER

This beach is one of the hidden gems in East Java. This white sand beach has clear water. The waves are pretty calm and safe if you want to swim on the beach. In addition to the clean beaches, this beach is also decorated with some large rocks and beautiful cliffs, which you can reach by using a ship. On the shore, fishermen commonly use many ships to find fish, and some are rented out to tourists who want to go around the coast for 20 minutes. Don’t forget to wear a life jacket and obey the rules!

THE EXISTENCE OF NATIVE TRIBES IN MOUNT BROMO
SINCE THE 10TH CENTURY

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the largest volcanic area in the province of East Java which has an extraordinary tourist attraction. Divided into four regions in Probolinggo, Lumajang, Pasuruan, and Malang. This national park not only presents its natural charm that spoils the eye of the tourist but the local wisdom and rich history are also added value to this one. The tourist destination.

In this mountainous region, various folklore has been told orally and in writing. Also, those have accompanied the people who live in the surrounding area from generation to generation. One of them is the story of the indigenous tribes who inhabit the area of Mount Bromo. The tribe is known as the Tengger tribe. This certainly adds a unique side to Mount Bromo itself.

Besides being rich in the charm of natural beauty, Bromo has indigenous peoples and traditions that cannot be separated from one another. The indigenous tribes who inhabit the Bromo area are estimated to have existed since the 10th century. Judging from the archaeological aspect, the Tengger tribe has existed since before the Majapahit era. Not only from a story but several inscriptions from the Majapahit to the Singasari era show the existence of people who worship Mount Bromo, which we now know as the Tengger Tribe. Some of these inscriptions include the Muncang inscription, found in 902 AD; the Linga Sultan inscription, located in 929 AD; and the Pananjakan inscription, found in 1324 Saka or 1402 AD.

The Muncang and Linga Sultan inscriptions state that the people in the Tengger area have existed since 902 AD. It is said that several villages around the Tengger area have special fief status or sanctified land. Then, it is also described in the Linga Sultan inscription that there is
worship by the people in the Tengger region to Mount Brahma (now Bromo). It was carried out every month of Kasada, called the Yadnya Kasada ritual.

MORE ARTICLES : Surabaya Historicultural City Tour

In addition to being rich in history, the Tenggerese are also rich in traditions and noble values , which are still firmly held by the Tenggerese. Reportedly, at least four traditional ceremonies are held yearly: Yadnya Kasada, Unan-unan, Yadnya Karo, and Pujan Mubeng.

Yadnya Kasada
The famous Yadnya Kasada is identical to the Tengger tribe. It is a traditional ceremony that depicts the belief of the Tenggerese people towards the spirits of their ancestors who have sacrificed themselves to protect the people in the Tengger area. This ceremony also aims to show gratitude for all God’s gifts.

Unan-Unan
In the Tengger tribe, the activities of alms to the earth or village cleanup are commonly referred to as Unan-unan. This activity aims to grant to nature and those who look after agricultural land and plantations in villages and water sources. And another meaning of Unan-Unan is to free the village from disturbances of bhutakala (spirits) and as a request to avoid disease
and be free from all suffering in life.

Yadnya Karo
Yadnya Karo or Hari Raya Karo is a ritual and a holiday held for a long time. That is for fourteen days. In Javanese, Karo is loro (two). This ceremony is stored in the second month and is the most extended traditional ceremony in the Tengger community and is held in conjunction with Nyepi Day for Hindus. This traditional ceremony is carried out as a form of gratitude for the Tengger people for the blessings bestowed by Sang Hyang Swayambhu (God Brahma).

Pujan Mubeng
Pujan Mubeng tradition is held by all villagers by going around the village with the shaman while hitting the ketipung from the eastern village boundary, around the four corners of the village. This ceremony aims to cleanse the village of all harmful disturbances and disasters.

Not only rich in natural resources, the Tengger people who inhabit the Mount Bromo area and its surroundings are also rich in cultural heritage from their ancestors. Its long and centuries-old history brought many values from various cultures in the past. And then acculturated with the current developments, making the cultural diversity of the Tengger tribe able to coexist with the new colors of changing times. Still, it did not eliminate the original color of the Tengger tribe. This makes many tourists interested in visiting to witness the cultural diversity for themselves.

The paradise island of Bali has so much to offer, from world-class diving and surfing to breathtaking treks in the wild animal parks and bird sanctuaries; from inspirational spirituality to fine dining in restaurants served by world-renowned international chefs and of course, for so many the name “Bali” calls to mind the island’s hundreds of intricately carved temples – most 1,000 years old and still in use. It could be nearly impossible to fit everything in. One of the most exciting things it has to offer are its famous active volcano hikes. Among them are Mount Batur, Mount Bratan and Mount Agung – which has caused quite a few disruptions over the past few years.

But if you’re looking to be blown away, we recommend booking a private Ijen Crater tour. Also known as the Ijen Blue Fire, it really is spectacular, featuring the largest acid lake in the world and the only natural ‘blue fire’ on earth! Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

How to get there and when to go

Mount Ijen is actually situated in East Java, away from the hustle and bustle of central Bali. The nearest airport to Ijen is Surabaya, so you may wish to fly there and stay in the area for a few days before and after completing your hike.

The most common way to get there from Java island is to drive from Surabaya or Malang, take a 7 hours driving by car ride to Banyuwangi and then you will only be about an hour drive from Mount Ijen. Usually tourists take the Mount Bromo tour before going to the Ijen Blue Fire tour because it is in the same line to go to. On our private Mount Ijen Tour we actually provide all the transportation so no need to worry about the planning, tickets, accommodation, etc. The total travel time will take around a day, depending on your exact location before in Java.

In the matter of when to go, the dry season in Bali is April-October. This is probably the best time of year but it is also the busiest so you may consider going outside of these months. To be honest, it’s perfectly fine to visit all year round, there’s just a slightly higher chance of a shower if you go during the wet season in Bali.

But you might actually be thankful for the opportunity to cool down when you’re halfway through your hike!

Kawah Ijen Crater

Kawah Ijen is most famous for its one of a kind blue fire and for being home to the world’s largest acid lake. But it’s so much more – the area is home to many other volcanoes and hills which are absolutely breathtaking. The hike is beautiful but it’s not for the faint hearted.

From the starting point of the hike, it takes around an hour to reach Kawah Ijen base camp; and from there it takes around another 2 hours at a moderate pace to reach the peak. You don’t have to be super fit to undertake the hike, but do keep in mind that it’s quite steep. Once you reach the peak your guide will instruct you to put your gas mask on to protect your lungs from the sulfuric gas.

After reaching the top, you can actually walk down into the crater, but again, it is steep! Around 4am is the best time to reach the acid lake for a chance to witness the natural show of the blue fire. The sun usually starts to rise at about 5:30am so be sure to grab yourself a nice little viewing spot and prepare to be amazed!

bromo ijen tours

bromo ijen tours

Blue Fire

The Ijen crater is actually a well known sulfur mining site. You will see many miners carrying heavy loads (between 75 and 90 kg!) all the way up to the crater. The blue fire derives from the mining activity and is ignited sulfuric gas, which emerges from cracks.

As with every natural sighting its height and intensity depends on various conditions and cannot be predicted. The flames have been known to reach more than 5 meters in height but this is not always the case. No matter what, it is always a unique experience and you are guaranteed to get some pretty amazing photographs on our all-inclusive Mount Ijen tour!

Acid Lake

The high acidity of the lake starts decomposing your skin after 15 seconds so better not swim there. You can put your hand in the lake for a few seconds, under a guide’s supervision without it being harmful, but be careful not to touch your eyes afterwards as there may be some tears!

What to bring

Warm clothes! Indonesia might be tropical, but it gets very chilly at night at 2,300 m. It’s best to wear a few layers of clothing, so you can take some off when the sun comes up. I’d suggest a pair of comfy and supportive sneakers or trekking shoes, thick-ish socks, leggings or tracksuit bottoms, a vest, a t-shirt, a jacket and a lightweight waterproof jacket. These are all items of clothing you may not necessarily think to pack for a trip to Bali, so it pays to be organized if you’re planning to complete the hike!

Water. Stay hydrated it is very important during on your hike and throughout the day, as it will be quite a long day! But do not worry we will provides you a water whenever you need.

Sunscreen. Although it will be cold at night, once the sun comes up it will warm up rapidly and you’ll be very exposed to the sun on your way down.

Other tips:

Make sure you eat enough. Since it will be a really long day, and the climb is quite strenuous, you’ll want to make sure you have enough energy! Be sure to eat plenty at meal times and snack throughout the day. Our Mount Ijen tour is all inclusive so dinner, breakfast and lunch are included as well as snacks and mineral water.

Don’t worry too much about the sulfuric gas! Your guide will instruct you when you need to put your mask on, and this is just a safety precaution so you have nothing to worry about!

Stay close to your guide. The trail can be very busy with many different groups embarking on the hike in the middle of the night. Just be aware of this and try to keep an eye on your guide, they will take care of you.

Go to the toilet whenever you have the chance, as options can be quite limited!

Enjoy it! Undertaking a Mount Ijen tour will not be the easiest thing you’ve ever done but it will be so rewarding and it will stay in your memory forever!
